AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FOR THE SUPPORT OF MISSISSIPPI TECHNOLOGY, INCORPORATED, FOR FISCAL YEARS 1999 AND 2000.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The following sum, or so much of it as may be necessary, is appropriated out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, to the Department of Economic and Community Development for the support of Mississippi Technology, Incorporated, for the period beginning upon the passage of this act and ending June 30, 2000 $ 1,500,000.00.

SECTION 2. It is the intention of the Legislature that the Department of Economic and Community Development shall maintain complete accounting and personnel records related to the expenditure of all funds appropriated by this act.

SECTION 3. The funds appropriated by this act are provided for the specific purpose of providing state funds for support of Mississippi Technology, Incorporated, a not-for-profit corporation formed in December of 1998 as a result of the recommendation from the Mississippi Science and Technology Commission. Mississippi Technology, Incorporated, will promote economic growth from science and technology as described in the Mississippi Science and Technology Action Plan funded by the Legislature in the 1997 Regular Session. The funds appropriated by this act shall be held separate and apart from all other funds appropriated to the Department of Economic and Community Development.

SECTION 4. The money appropriated by this act shall be paid by the State Treasurer out of any money in the State General Fund not otherwise appropriated, upon warrants issued by the State Fiscal Officer; and the State Fiscal Officer shall issue his warrants upon requisitions signed by the proper person, officer or officers in the manner provided by law.

SECTION 5. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
